Relative abundance and Conservation value of teleost fishes in Khanwari Pond of District Kaushambi (U. P.)

Abstract

A systematic survey was conducted during all the 12 months of year 2015 to study the occurrence and diversity of fishes in naturally occurring perennial pond of Khanwari village of Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh. As a result of this survey, a total of 28 species of fishes belonging to 19 genera, 15 families and 8 orders were identified.   Family Cyprinidae is represented by 6 species, Bagridae by 5 species, Siluridae by 2 species, Clariidae by 2 species, Ophiocephalidae by 2 species, Notopteridae by 2 species while all other families namely Saccobranchidae, Schilbeidae, Gobiidae, Anabantidae, Osphronemidae, Clupeidae, Engraulidae, Belonidae and Mastacembeleidae are represented by one species each.
