The present study has generated qualitative and quantitative data of insects from selected habitats of Wadakkanchery area which were then assessed at the family level. Though insects were segregated to species correct taxonomical identification was not carried out due to various barriers. Statistical works are also made for the accurate assessment of the data by using Alpha diversity measures such as, Dominance index D, Shannon index H, Margalefs richness index R, Eveneness (Buzas and Gibsons evenness) E2, Relative dominance etc. Coleoptera and Lepidoptera were the most dominant orders in this area. The month wise analysis also made by this study, the month of May stood out with maximum diversity. The main objective of this study was the encounter of the extent and causes of insect diversity in the humid tropics which is one of the major challenges in modern ecology.
