Seasonal variation of zooplankton and zoobenthos population in Alwara lake of District Kaushambi Uttar Pradesh India

Abstract

The seasonal changes in zooplankton population of Alwara lake Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh from January 2012 to December 2012 was determined. In the study period authors have recorded 24 species of which, 10 species belong to Rotifera, 6 species belong to Cladocera, 5 species belong to Copepoda and 3 species of Ostracoda. Among zooplankton, rotifer was dominant throughout the study period and highest count was recorded in the summer season while low incidence was observed in monsoon season. Zoobenthos showed distinct quantitative variations. Number of Zoobenthos increased in the summer months while decreased in the winter months. Different groups of zoobenthos exhibited their distinct peaks in different months of the year.
